Rare original 1939 Rio Theatre movie advertising poster/broadside from Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania.
Large 22” x 28” period theater display advertising an outstanding lineup of 1939 films, including:
• The Women – Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell
• Charlie Chan at Treasure Island – Sidney Toler
• The Real Glory – Gary Cooper
• Dancing Co-Ed – Lana Turner
• Babes in Arms – Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland
A wonderful surviving piece of pre-war American movie-theater history. Unlike a standard studio-issued one-sheet advertising a single film, this locally produced theater poster promotes an entire program of upcoming attractions at the Rio Theatre.
Measures approximately 22” x 28”.
This is an original period piece, not a reproduction.
Condition: Significant age-related wear consistent with an approximately 87-year-old paper poster, including edge wear and losses, tears, creases, small holes/punctures, discoloration and general paper deterioration. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
Despite the condition issues, the central artwork, lettering and film advertisements remain remarkably vivid and highly displayable.
An unusual piece for collectors of vintage movie posters, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Joan Crawford, Gary Cooper, Charlie Chan memorabilia, Pennsylvania history, or historic movie-theater advertising.
Will be carefully packaged for shipment.
