1995 Press Photo Jennifer Coulson with Falcon Kestrel at Nunez Community College
This is an original press photo. Jennifer Coulson who teaches a class in Ornithology, the study of birds at Nunez Community College holds a Kestrel, the smallest falcon in America, that the class just caught on one of there many field trips. She is displaying the bird to her students Tammy and Andrew Walker and Justine Brassette. Once a bird is captured the class measures the beak, the wing cord, and the Tarsus (elbow) and checks the physical condition of the bird before releasing. A caged mouse is used for bait to capture the birds. The cage is not detected by the birds who just see an easy dinner and also assures the protection of the mouse. Photo measures 10 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 05-19-1995.
