Offered here is a February 9, 1928 typed letter on the engraved letterhead of The Jefferson Hotel, Richmond, Virginia, accompanied by its original mailed envelope with stamp and Richmond postmark. The sheet measures approximately standard business letter size (about 8½ x 11 inches when unfolded), printed in green ink with a distinctive profile silhouette of Thomas Jefferson at upper left and ornate Gothic-style “The Jefferson” masthead.

The letter is addressed to MR. C. N. NETTLETON of Covington, Virginia, confirming a reservation for “Mrs. Nettleton and yourself, with cot for child, for arrival February 14th.” It is signed by N. K. WHITMAN, Assistant Manager (printed as “Asst. Manager”), under the management of Wallington Hardy. The matching envelope is postmarked RICHMOND, VA., February 9, 1928, with a red Washington two-cent stamp.

The Jefferson Hotel, opened in 1895, is one of the South’s most famous luxury hotels, making this an appealing piece of hospitality, travel, and Virginia ephemera. Items like this document everyday travel arrangements during the Roaring Twenties and also provide genealogical value for the Nettleton family of Covington, Virginia.

Condition: Typical age toning and fold lines from mailing and storage; envelope shows light wear and postal handling marks; letter remains clean and legible with strong signature.
