This is an ornate Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The rings are circular with flat bases. The sides have pierced scrolling decoration with large circular blank cartouches at the fronts surrounded by pierced scrolls.

The napkin rings were made in Sheffield by James Lewis & Sons and date to 1904. The firm was established in Sheffield as electroplaters in the early 1890s. They registered a Sterling Silver mark at the Sheffield assay office in 1896. The company produced a range of tableware and candlesticks in both solid silver and silver plate and remained in business until around 1910.

Condition is fair with just a slight misshaping and one tiny split in the pierced decoration low down on the front of one napkin ring. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each napkin ring is 4.6cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 3.8cm / 1.5ins deep across the cartouche. The pair together weigh in at a very respectable 43.0g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, at the top of each cartouche, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter m for 1904 and the J L & S makers' mark for James Lewis & Sons.
