A Charming and Rare Example of a Genuine 19th/ Early 20th Century Desk Bell.

In the form of a tortoise or turtle, dating from circa 1890s-1930s. A rare and highly sought after, early example.

Made of brass and cast iron, it has a fully functioning clockwork/wind up bell mechanism which sounds the bell when the top of the shell is depressed (See Video for the sound and function)

Possibly German/European in manufacture, I cannot find any markings. The shell can be lifted up to reveal the bell mechanism underneath.

Condition: In excellent antique original condition. The Bell rings very well and winds up as it should. Some historic scuff marks/scratches to top of brass shell. General usage ware and patination to metal as to be expected and commensurate with an authentic period piece. At the back of the shell there is a little hook which connects the shell to the underside. There is a small loss to one of the lugs/hooks (see last picture) but does not affect its function or presentation in any way at all. Fully functioning and great sound! Displays beautifully and would grace any home, business or collection.

Measurements: Approximately 15.5cm from head to tail tip. Approximately 10.5cm at widest point. Weighs approximately 475 grams.
