This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Toast Rack. The rack has a rectangular base with four bracket feet, flat ends and scalloped sides. There are five arched dividers and a teardrop shaped handle in the middle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The toast rack was made in Birmingham by silversmith William Devenport and dates to 1929. William Devenport founded his firm in the 1890s in the heart of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Quickly successful, the company produced a huge range of silverware. After William's death in the early 1930s, the company became William Devenport & Co and remained in business into the early 1950s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 8.6cm / 3.4ins long by 6.5cm / 2.5ins wide and stands 9.3cm / 3.6ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 60.2g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, one one side of the toast rack, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter E for 1929 and the W.D makers' mark for William Devenport.
