For sale is a WW2 May 1944 To May 1945 War Diary For 17th Canadian Medical Wireless Section & Photographs. This group includes 20 original photographs of the diaries owners in full uniform.

The front of the diary is marked “War diary, 17 Cdn. Med. W’less Sec, SECRET.” This diary also comes with a selection of photographs from the husband who served within the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (RCCS) and the wife who served within the 17th Canadian medical wireless section during World War Two. This diary is filled with long paragraphs for each day between the dates of the 28th of May 1944 until 7th of May 1945, including important dates like D-Day etc.

This diary covers each of the days in good detail, regarding the movements of the regiment, the engagements it was active in, notes on killed in action soldiers etc.

An extract from the diary for the 6th of June 1944: “combined with advance information, the sound of thousands of planes at about 0600 had convinced me that D-day had arrived. The German army at 0800 had verified this, our own news made this certain. At 0900 we could see hundreds of landing crafts crossing the channel.” Theres over a page for events that happened on D-Day.

This is a superb diary containing very detailed information about the day to day life during wartime, every day weather reports and covering very important dates like D-Day etc. The handwriting isn’t the easiest to decipher, but it is doable.

About these two regiments the man and wife served in during 1944;

A World War II medical unit under the Royal Canadian Medical Corps (RCAMC). They landed in France in June 1944 and served closely with the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade. Communications were handled by the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. Famous units included No. 1 and No. 2 Special Wireless Sections, which specialized in intercepting enemy transmissions.

This is an exceptionally interesting read. And could do with further research.
