Artistic Description:

This distinguished 1970 Fornasetti Milano “Astro Labio” No. 6 Christmas Plate embodies the poetic surrealism and refined wit that define Piero Fornasetti’s artistic universe. Conceived as part of the celebrated Astro Labio series, the plate becomes both a celestial Sundial and a dream-like meditation on the winter season.

At its square graphic center, delicate compass lines and symbolic motifs evoke the language of astrolabes and ancient cosmographies. Constellations, orbit-like curves, and enigmatic emblems hover in perfect balance, creating the impression of a mystical instrument capable of reading the secrets of the heavens. Fornasetti’s signature blend of precision and fantasy lends the plate a quiet, intellectual charm—half scientific artefact, half poetic riddle.

Encircling these cosmic symbols is the artist’s subtle nod to the festive spirit of Christmas—Noël and Weihnachten inscribed with graceful restraint, transforming the plate into a seasonal treasure without compromising its metaphysical elegance. The black-and-gold palette, characteristic of Fornasetti’s refined decorative language, lends the piece a restrained luminosity, as if illuminated from within by the distant glow of winter stars.

Executed in fine porcelain and marked Fornasetti Milano, this 1970 edition exemplifies the atelier’s commitment to timeless craftsmanship. Rich in symbolism yet minimalist in composition, the “Astro Labio” No. 6 plate is both an artwork and a talisman—an invitation to contemplate the quiet magic of the cosmos during the most contemplative season of the year.
