Vintage Japanese Sajigawa Suiseki Viewing Stone "Amanohashidate" Tomobako SS234

This is an exceptional vintage Japanese "Suiseki" (viewing stone), highly prized by bonsai and scholar's rock collectors. This piece is a coveted "Sajigawa-ishi" (stone from the Saji River in Tottori Prefecture, renowned for producing some of Japan's finest viewing stones). It is entirely natural and unprocessed ("Tennen Ubu"), shaped only by the forces of nature.

The stone bears the poetic name (Mei) "Amanohashidate." This is a beautiful example of "mitate"—the traditional Japanese aesthetic of likening an object to a specific landscape. The flat, elongated, and textured form of the stone is likened to Amanohashidate in the Tango region (modern-day northern Kyoto), a famous pine-covered sandbar known as one of Japan's Three Most Scenic Views. Furthermore, this stone is celebrated as "Ryo-shomen" (having two fronts), meaning its beautifully balanced landscape can be appreciated equally from both the front and the back. 

**Provenance:**
On the underside of the custom-carved wooden base (Daiza), an old collection sticker bears a red seal reading "Hakuseki." This signifies a distinguished provenance, indicating that this stone was a cherished piece ("iai-seki") from the personal collection of the esteemed Suiseki connoisseur, Kawakami Hakuseki-ou. It comes with its original signed wooden box (Tomobako).

Condition:
The stone is in excellent vintage condition, beautifully reflecting its history as a cherished collection piece ("iai-seki") as indicated by the collector's seal on the base. It exhibits a rich, deep patina and natural geological textures characteristic of a true antique Suiseki that has been carefully preserved over generations. The custom wooden daiza has minor surface scuffs and wear consistent with age. The original wooden box shows natural aging, slight fading of the ink, and minor surface dirt.
