For sale is a WW2 French Framed Medal Group To POW Stalag XB 1940 To 1945 Martin Louise.

This is a very interesting presented display of framed World War Two French medals. With scenes of prisoner of war illustrated on the background, a water coloured photograph of the POW, and a lovely carved wooden frame. Inside the frame it states:

“Martin Louise Classe 1922. Prisonnier le 24 juni 1940. Stalag XB repatrio le 21 juni 1945.”

Which translates to “Martin Louise, Class of 1922. Taken prisoner on June 24, 1940. Stalag XB; repatriated on June 21, 1945.”

Held inside this frame are the following medals:

Medal for civilian prisoners, deportees and hostages of the 1914–1918 Great War. A French commemorative award. The medal recognized civilians forced from their homes and interned in camps.

Croix de Guerre 1939–1945. Recognised soldiers for battlefield bravery.

About Stalag XB:

Stalag X-B was a World War II German prisoner-of-war camp located near Sandbostel in Lower Saxony in north-western Germany. Between 1939 and 1945 several hundred thousand POWs of 55 nations passed through the camp. Due to the bad conditions in which they were housed, thousands passed away there of hunger, disease, or were killed. Estimates of the number of dead range from 8,000 to 50,000.

This frame measures 50cm in length x 41cm height.
