Front description:

A 1948 Royal Silver Wedding first day cover from North Borneo. The envelope is cream/buff paper. At left is a printed cachet in black: the word "Royal" in an arched Old English script at top, below it a portrait vignette of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in profile (the Queen in front wearing a necklace and earrings, the King behind), then "Silver wedding" in Gothic lettering, the dates "1923 ∾ 1948," and "1st Day Cover" in script beneath.

At upper right is affixed a North Borneo 8 cents Silver Wedding commemorative stamp, printed in red/carmine, showing the conjoined profiles of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, inscribed "1923–1948" at the top, "8 CENTS" at lower left, and "NORTH BORNEO" at lower right. The stamp is tied by a circular datestamp reading "JESSELTON · NORTH BORNEO ·" with the date "1 NO 48" (1 November 1948).

The cover is typewritten in black to the addressee:

A pencil notation "238" appears at lower right.

Back description:

The back of the envelope is plain cream/buff paper with the diagonal flap seams visible, showing age toning, scattered foxing, and a few small ink/foxing spots at upper left. There is no printing, message, stamp, or postmark on the reverse.

Estimated era: 1 November 1948 (dated by the Jesselton postmark). This is a first day cover for the North Borneo issue of the British Commonwealth-wide 1948 Royal Silver Wedding omnibus series, marking the 25th wedding anniversary (1923–1948) of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. North Borneo issued two values (8 cents and a high value); this cover bears the 8 cents, cancelled at Jesselton on the first day of issue, with a locally printed commemorative cachet.
