"Les Années Pop," or "Pop Years," refers to a major exhibition at the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris from March 15 to August 7, 2001. It focused on the rise of Pop art and its cultural impact, going beyond a simple survey of the art movement itself. The exhibition explored the vibrant energy and social commentary of the Pop Years.

  • "Les Années Pop" was a significant exhibition: It was a major event at the Centre Pompidou, dedicated to the Pop Years.
  • It went beyond a simple survey: The exhibition explored the broader cultural impact of Pop art, including its music, fashion, and social aspects.
  • It was characterized by a lively approach: "Les Années Pop" was not just a display of artwork but a vibrant celebration of the era.

Synopsis

Language: French - 440 pages - color and b/w illustrations - Edizione francese - The Pop Years, a catalogue following the Beaubourg exhibition, must be considered as a true anthology of the pop culture of the sixties. Organized according to a strict chronology, it presents from page to page the multiple avatars of a movement that had spread to the different systems of creation: painting, photography, architecture, design, comics, fashion, etc. Full of quotations, famous texts never before translated into French, and luminous analyses of the state of mind of an era, this book also offers an iconography of rare richness. All the icons, all the masterpieces produced by pop art are there, gathered in these pages. Suffice to say that this catalogue is therefore an essential reference. Unfortunately, some of its shortcomings make it difficult to use. Thus, the absence of pagination, its index and its complex bibliography, the lack of coherence in its presentation, transform this brilliant visual and theoretical essay into a work intended preferably for those who love beautiful images or for those who already possess a very good knowledge of the history of this movement. --Damien Sausset

This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use.
