Alphonse Quizet took up painting in 1903. He taught himself by copying the Old Masters in the Louvre. He exhibited in Paris, at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Salon des Indépendants and Salon d'Automne. He was a friend to Maurice Utrillo, whom he guided in his early efforts around 1900 in Montmartre. He also knew Leprin and Valtat. He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur.

In 1943, he produced five large decorative panels for the wedding room of the town hall in Pré-St-Gervais.

He aimed to capture the romantic, picturesque quality of what was left of rustic life on the outskirts of Paris, and the titles of his paintings clearly indicate the locations which inspired him; The Moulin de la Galette, The Fortifications, The Dance Hall. He adored Montmartre, and painted the basilica and the Rue André del Sarte. He often painted the St-Martin canal, the Pré-St-Gervais, Belleville and the banks of the Marne at Montmorency.
