Absolutely charming Victorian 9K yellow gold oval locket featuring on one side a cluster of forget-me-nots with a scrolled engraving and the other side with a polished cartouche surrounded by foliate scrollwork. Late Victorian to the Edwardian period, circa 1900.

The locket is constructed as “Gold Back and Front” with the outer front and back plates consisting of approximately 9K yellow gold, while the interior frame, sides and hinges are likely made of a base metal plated in gold for added strength. The exterior is marked with a maker’s mark, but the locket contains no further marking. The inside shows signs of past metal testing and some VERY SMALL divots that may be hallmarks or could have been made from the past metal testing. An acid touchstone test of the oval panels indicates it is approximately 9K gold or better.

As unmarked antique gold, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) determined purity may vary slightly from this estimate. Antique jewelry was typically made by craftspeople who worked with different material standards and practices, or even the absence of standards, from those we now expect with modern jewelry. When describing such pieces, we provide as much information as we can reasonably determine and cite the methods used for that determination. The piece you are buying may exhibit small inconsistencies or variations from our estimate. Such variances are unavoidable for jewelry made 100+ years ago.

The locket measures approximately 1.25 inches tall (not including bail) by 1 inch long. It weighs approximately 4.52 grams. It appears to have a past solder repair to the top near the bail as shown in photos.

The item(s) are antique and sold as is/as found unless otherwise noted. Because they are old, they were used and will not look new or new-like. They likely show wear, fading, scratches, chips, cracks, past repair/restoration, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. Significant issues are shown in photos. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing. No returns or refunds.

Items sold for $100 or more may be shipped with insurance and signature requirement.
