This is Hugo, a cute little rocking horse who was made by Collinson rocking horse makers of Liverpool around the 1960s. After an earlier make-over in the 1990s, he has now been given a full restoration by Linley Rockers.
Hugo has been restored using high quality materials throughout, including his gorgeous dark grey, real horse hair on hide mane, tail and forelock. His red tack has been made using a combination of real and faux leather. He has a hand-stitched saddle, with a padded, maroon cotton seat and matching saddle cloth. Hugo has brass stirrups, bit and buckles. His stirrup leathers are adjustable to suit a growing rider. He has been given new, glass eyes which add to his pony-like character.
Hugo arrived without a stand or rails, so a replacement stand, made in Collinson’s style, has been made. The stand is mainly made from mahogany wood with the two uprights made from pine. Hugo has had new swing irons but the brackets are vintage and would be similar to ones that he had originally.
Hugo is a gorgeous rocking horse who has loads of character and would either make a fantastic present for a lucky child or be a great feature in the home of a rocking horse enthusiast. Hugo is a small Collinson horse and as such would suit riders aged between 3-6 years (depending on each individual child). Hugo’s approximate measurements are:-
Height from floor to crest of neck (highest point) - 89cm Height from floor to saddle seat - 70cm Length of stand base - 100cm Width of stand base - 38cm
Hugo is listed as collection only and he is currently stabled at my home near Welshpool, Powys. However, we may be able to deliver if required but please discuss this first as it may incur an additional cost for fuel etc. I am happy to arrange viewings if required, answer any related questions or take additional photographs etc. if needed.
Rocking horses are excellent toys for children as they help to improve core strength, balance, hand-eye coordination and boost imagination, however, children should always be supervised when riding.
