Welcome to Dash Vintage III,
Up for auction today is a Vintage Penzel Mueller Artist Model Clarinet. The
Penzel Mueller "Artist" model is a highly regarded,
professional-grade vintage clarinet manufactured in Long Island City, New York,
primarily from the 1920s through the 1950s. Built by German immigrant craftsmen
Gustav Penzel and Edward Müller, this flagship instrument was celebrated as
America's direct, top-tier answer to dominant European makers like Buffet
Crampon and Selmer. Unlike the sweeter, more delicate French style, the Artist
model provides a robust, direct, and incredibly focused sound with massive
dynamic projection. This heavy, free-blowing presence made it the weapon of
choice for legendary mid-century jazz clarinet professionals, most notably
Woody Herman (who played an Artist model exclusively before WWII) and New
Orleans legend George Lewis. The Artist Model clarinets were top of the line horns, during
the period!
This clarinet is no exception. This is a genuine, high-end professional
Penzel Mueller clarinet that is a true collector's piece being sold in
unrestored "as-is" condition! As this instrument is historically
interesting, I have chosen to not do restoration work on it and leave that to
the eventual owner. This clarinet will for sure make a great addition for a
professional and/or collector, so don't miss out!
This item is being sold as-is as pictured, so please take a look at the photos carefully as they are part of the description.
