This is an original 1905 Certificate of School Attendance for a John Walters who lived in Byron Street, Ilkeston and attended Gladstone Street Council School in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. The certificate was issued "for the pupose of employment under Section 5, Elementary Education Act 1976, or for total or partial exemption under the Bye-Laws", and shows attendances for the years 1901 to 1905 inclusive. The certificate measures 13.5cm x 11.9 and is a single layer printed on one side only. Nice addition to a local history collection, or to help with family tree research.
The certificate is in a good condition. It has been folded into four in the past but will be sent flat. General edge and corner rubs, creases at corners, tiny pin-hole at each corner and two further tiny pin-holes to item, tiniest of holes where folds meet in the centre - only visible when held to light, rubbing and some grubbiness along folds on reverse, repaired 1.5cm tear at right hand end of horizontal fold, the odd small, very light brown mark here and there, some grubbiness to reverse, small split at top of vertical fold, the odd tiny bump and nick to edges - overall though a nice item.
