Offered here is an original 1880's wooden box end stenciled 50 LBS. Giant Powder San Francisco California. Includes the 1881 Patent Date. Measures 8.25 x 6.75, telling me it is actually a mismarked end from a Twenty Five Pound size powder box. As shown alongside a stenciled 50 pound box end, with the apparent size difference, 50 pound one not a part of this sale. Twenty Five pound boxes of explosives much tougher to find than the 50 pound size, and I have not seen a Giant Powder mismark before. Back shows a tag that includes the provenance showing the box end was found in Downieville near Gabbs, Nye County Nevada. Acquired from the collection of a well known Reno Nevada mining artifact collector now sadly passed. Great display piece of Giant Powder Company and Nevada mining history. Thanks for looking!
