ESP Horizon Very Early Model, Through-Neck, Beautiful Burgundy Mist
According to the catalog, production began in 1987, but the exact year of this particular instrument is unknown.
Based on the serial number, I’ve been told it may have been made in 1989.
Judging by the headstock shape, it’s almost certainly a very early model. (It looks so early, I wonder if it might even be a prototype.)
It has been stored in its original hard case.
The arched-top body measures 33 mm at its thinnest point, and I estimate the top section is about 47 mm thick.
The neck is maple with an ebony fingerboard and no position marks; there are marks on the sides, however.
Over 80% of the frets remain.
The grip is excellent—it has a comfortable feel with rounded sides, similar to what you’d find on overseas-made guitars.
The metal hardware includes small, clean-looking tuning pegs.
The bridge is made by GOTOH, though it shows some signs of tarnish.
I remember being blown away by the sound quality of this ESP when I first bought it—it was completely different from the other Japanese-made guitars around me at the time, such as Schecter, Fernandes, and Sherbel. That’s when I realized this was the global standard.
This is an ultra-early production run of the Horizon, different from current models. I believe it’s a very rare find.
