East Coast of Australia, Queensland – Moreton Bay to Sandy Cape
Surveyed by Nav. Lieut. P. Bedwell, R.N., and assistants Bray & Connor, 1869–70.
Published at the Hydrographic Office of the Admiralty, London, 1870, with corrections to 1889.
An impressive official British Admiralty sea chart of the Queensland east coast, showing the complex approaches between Moreton Bay and Sandy Cape (northern tip of Fraser Island). This stretch of coast includes some of the most intricate and shifting shoal grounds on the Australian seaboard, and the chart was produced for practical use by merchant shipping and Royal Navy vessels approaching Brisbane and ports further north.
The chart shows detailed soundings, sandbanks, shoals, coastal lights, beacons, and navigation channels, with notes on tides, seabed composition, and recommended tracks for safe passage.
