A carved wooden helmet style mask with Janus mask faces and a well weathered and worn surface patina. The mask appears to have been painted at one time with white kaolin however only small bits remain as evidence, it is overall washed and weathered clean to the bare wood.

It has been suggested that this unusual mask was actually carved by a Kwele artist due to the facial style and expression.

The mask measures 14 x 12 inches, there is no display stand included.

 Fang peoples, Gabon, West Africa.

Provenance: A private NYC collection.
