Good condition with no cracks or repairs
Impressed two-character mark, inward rim and hand-built vertical join

Description

This is a Japanese studio pottery cylinder vase in the Shigaraki tradition, hand built in coarse stoneware with an irregular inward rim and flat unglazed base. It has an impressed two-character mark low on the body, with a wavy vertical join running the full height of the vase.

The olive brown ash glaze, iron speckling and sandy quartz-rich body come from the kiln and the clay itself. The narrow form is made for flower display, especially a single stem or simple ikebana arrangement.
