This carving depicts Shou Xing, the Chinese god of longevity, recognised by his lined face, high forehead, and flowing beard. He holds a gnarled staff, his traditional attribute, and wears layered robes carved with deep folds that convey movement and rhythm.

The figure stands on a rocky, root-carved base, integrating natural form with detailed workmanship. Inset glass eyes bring added realism, giving the face a strikingly lifelike quality. Measuring 27 cm high, this is a finely executed example of late 19th-century Chinese folk carving.
