This is an ORIGINAL 1874 document. It is a Statement of Fact from a John Barnfield regarding a dispute over the will of his brother William Barnfield of Shifnal in Shropshire (Salop), who died on 8th April 1871. The dispute seems to have arisen from the terms of a will of James Bayley of Beckbury in Shropshire who was the Grandfather of John and William Barnfield and who died in January 1802. James Bayley had daughters called Margaret (married surname Smith), Elizabeth (married surname Farmer) and Ann (married surname Barnfield). Ann had children called John, William and Robert. John's wife was called Eleanor Jane. Other places and people mentioned are as follows:- Reverend Richard Mountfoot of Ryton, Salop, William Farmer of Suttom Maddock, Salop, Thomas Wilkinson of Arlescott, Salop, and Thomas Barnfield (died 17/11/1806) of Ewdness, Salop. Ann had grandchildren called Thomas Barnfield, Francis Elizabeth Barnfield, Eleanor Barnfield, Ann Barnfield and Pauline Barnfield. This is an excellent addition to a local history collection, or to help with family tree research. It bears far more time spent on research than I have given it. The document consists of just over thirteen written sides of paper - four double sheets looselt grouped together - there are no clips or pins and there is no evidence that there have ever been any. The statement does seem to break off at the end of one sentence so I am unsure as to whether it is a finished account or not. Each double sheet measures 20.8cm x 33.5cm which opens out to double the width. The sheets will be sent flat.
The document is in a very good minus condition. Each sheet has been folded in half vertically in the past. General edge, fold end and corner rubs, crease at top rear corner of last sheet, light bends and some very small and tiny creases at other corners, rubbing and some light grubbiness along spines, the odd bit of tiny loss and some small, light bends and creases at spine ends, small split at top of spine of third sheet, lighter rubbing along vertical folds, a couple of patches of some sort of brown residue to rear panel of last sheet, some small, light creases across vertical folds and spines, a hint of browning here and there with a little very light grubbiness here and there, the odd very small and tiny mark, some tiny bumps at edges. Overall though a nice item.
