The signature moonstone flash is caused by the internal structure of the feldspar crystal, which is made up of alternating microscopic layers of orthoclase and albite. When tilted under a direct light source, its deep, dark charcoal base reveals glowing, silvery-white or brilliant blue shimmering flashes, resembling a stormy night sky.
