Antique Royal Dux Eastern Water Carrier Figurine Bohemian Porcelain 18cm
A wonderfully atmospheric antique Royal Dux Bohemian porcelain figurine depicting an Eastern Water Carrier, produced during the golden age of Royal Dux artistry in the early 20th century ✨
This beautifully sculpted figure portrays a travelling water carrier balancing a sack over one shoulder while holding a small water vessel at his side. The muted ivory, sage green, terracotta and sand-toned palette is highly characteristic of authentic Edwardian-era Royal Dux production and gives the piece an elegant, softly aged appearance.
The figurine was produced as part of Royal Dux’s highly collectible smaller mantelpiece series — decorative works designed to bring continental European sophistication into fashionable homes during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Fine sculptural detailing can be seen throughout, particularly in the flowing robes, facial features, and carefully hand-painted surfaces. The piece displays beautifully and carries all the charm associated with antique Bohemian porcelain.
The underside retains the famous raised pink triangular Royal Dux mark, applied separately in pink clay before firing — one of the factory’s most important authentication features.
A particularly attractive collector’s piece ideal for:
Royal Dux was founded in Duchcov, Bohemia (now Czech Republic) in the 19th century by Eduard Eichler, becoming one of Europe’s most respected porcelain manufacturers.
The factory became internationally renowned for producing elegant figurines inspired by mythology, village life, Orientalist subjects and Art Nouveau design. During the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, Royal Dux figurines were highly desirable luxury decorative objects throughout Britain and continental Europe.
This example carries the highly sought-after raised pink triangle mark featuring the letter “E”, referencing founder Eduard Eichler. This style of mark was used on genuine antique Royal Dux production prior to the end of World War I, helping date the piece to approximately 1900–1918.
The impressed model number beside the triangle is another important indicator of authentic early Royal Dux manufacture.
Royal Dux figurines were once considered fashionable status pieces in upper-middle-class Edwardian homes, often displayed alongside bronze clocks, marble busts and fine French glassware on mantelpieces and display cabinets ✨
