I purchased this M3 in March 2019 with 149,850 miles.  A primary motivation for my acquisition was as an introductory car to HPDE track work.  In my five years of ownership, I have invested more than $20K in non-consumable repairs and refurbishments. I employ the professionals at Road Race Technologies (RRT) in Sterling, VA for all maintenance and repairs. RRT is a primary sponsor of the local BMW CCA club and has a long and distinguished race car preparation/racing heritage.  https://rrtautomotive.com

A detailed service/repair history is provided below.  I have all such records of the car from new.  Almost all E36 M3 issues have been addressed.  Nearly every suspension bushing has been replaced and mounting point reinforcement accomplished in known E36 weak spots. OEM products have been used in almost all applications. I selected KW V3 coilovers with camber plates when the original shocks were replaced. 10mm front wheel spacers were required for coilover clearance.  A Z3 ‘X-brace’ is also installed.  Those are the only modifications on the car.

My expectation of many track days met the realities of family life and schedule conflicts.  In the end, I was only able to enjoy this M3 at the track approximately twelve times. All events were HPDE, club-sponsored drives and undertaken at my novice level. So, the car has in no way been abused.  Frankly, each track day seemed to highlight the next mechanical item that needed to be addressed.

This is a numbers and panels matching car. It retains its original paint. No accidents; no body work.  I rate the paint as a 7 on a 10-point scale. Its luster is great, but close examination reveals its age.  There was one door ding on the driver’s door below the rear-view mirror which was removed via paintless dent removal.  I also rate the interior as a 7, especially given its age. Although the leather shows usage consistent with age, there are no tears.  This M3 runs as if brand new. It passed a Virginia state inspection in April 2024. It receives regular fluid changes consistent with requirements for track use.  Several Blackstone Laboratory oil analysis reports confirm the health of the engine.

There are a few items that don’t work properly: (1) The “fifth-gear detent” failure common to the M3 transmission has never been repaired. (2) The door/window seals are original and do not seal as new. (3) The radio powers on, tunes stations, and seems to work properly … but it produces no sound. (4) The glove box release button needs to be replaced. Additionally, it is time to replace the tires.

This is my favorite car to drive. Its perfect balance, light weight, useable power and torque, and clairvoyant steering deliver an unparalleled car/driver experience. It is truly remarkable. I would drive this car across the country today … without any additional service or preparation. The next caretaker of this car will be very pleased.
