This 1T Tenor Ukulele was built around 1955 but dating Martin ukes can be tricky since they have no serial numbers and Martin went decades without changing specs on popular models like this. We can say, however, this ukulele was made before the neck was changed to 14 fret clear in 1960, and these Grover Champion tuners with black buttons were first used around 1946. The color of the faux tortoiseshell celluloid body binding is consistent with mid-1950s instruments so we're going with 1955, but it could have been made a couple of years earlier or later.
This tenor ukulele is in excellent structural condition and we can’t spot any cracks in the top back and sides. It has obviously been played a lot because there is pick wear on the treble side of the top and there is a small half moon of wear on the top where the previous owner’s strumming arm wore through the finish. There is also a small patch of missing finish on the back that looks like some tried to repair with a clear finish of some sort. This is a great sounding ukulele with the mellow, round tone you get from mahogany.
