Traditional Kokeshi originate from hot spring regions in northern Japan and are characterized by distinct regional styles passed down through generations of craftsmen.

This is a large Tsugaru-style Kokeshi created by master craftsman Abo Muchihide, one of the leading figures of the Tsugaru Kokeshi tradition and a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award.

He is widely respected for his skill and contribution to preserving traditional Japanese folk art.

This impressive work features a boldly painted Daruma face across the body, creating a powerful and distinctive design that immediately draws attention.

Based on its style and appearance, this piece is believed to date from the craftsman's early to middle period.

It is thought to have been made before he received the Prime Minister's Award.
