In Twelve Books. To Which is annexed, an Index,
Explaining the Names of Countrys, Cities, and Rivers, &c.
1697 First Edition
Richard Blackmore
Blackmore's first Arthurian epic Prince Arthur (1695), modelled after the Aeneid and based on Geoffrey of Monmouth, proved a commercial if not critical success. Arthur was a transparent parallel to William III, and William presented Blackmore with a gold medal and a knighthood as a reward.
Sequel to Blackmore's Virgilian epic poem Prince Arthur of 1695 but this time using Milton as his model; both were based on the histories of Geoffrey of Monmouth and celebrated William III in the role of Arthur. The present copy is one of two variants published in the same year, this one with "near the Inner-Temple-gate" in the imprint.
