The first of the modern 20 pence coins, issued in 1982 and featuring the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
Struck in cupro-nickel, the coin has a diameter of 21.4 mm and represents the introduction of a denomination that would become a familiar part of everyday British currency.
These coins have proved difficult to photograph, as many still retain their original mirror-like surfaces from the minting process. They have never been circulated, having been retained since issue for inclusion in collectors' sets assembled at the time. However, due to long-term storage in bags, they may show minor bag marks and light handling wear.
