Up for sale is an authentic antique Japanese raw silk bale export label dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho era (circa late 1800s to early 1900s). This gorgeous piece of graphic ephemera was used to mark silk bundles shipped from Japan to Western markets.
The label features an eye-catching, fiercely detailed stone-lithograph illustration of a traditional crouching Japanese tiger in a powerful stance.
Text Elements:
- English Text: Raw Silk - Iwakura Kikai Seijo - Tokushimaken Japan
- Japanese Text: Features the manufacturing factory details, district, and company name corresponding to the English text, written in traditional right-to-left alignment.
- Reverse Side: Plain reverse showing the natural, beautiful ink bleed-through silhouette of the tiger and text, along with authentic aging.
Condition Report:
This label is in good antique condition with wonderful earthy color preservation. It shows authentic signs of age, including a slight 2cm tear to the top right corner, light edge wear, natural paper browning/foxing, and soft handling creases consistent with paper ephemera over a century old.
