A very very early, unique highly sought early design retailed by Tiffany.
From the New York shop of Charles Grosjean and John H. Woodward, without question
the most important supplier to Tiffany, before they opened their own silver workshop.
G&W the most important silver makers in Boston, 1840-1852, moving to New York City
to expand their market.
Hallmarked as shown, G&W's earliest Tiffany hallmark used only one year 1853,
illustrated page 213 Carpenter's Tiffany book.
Of further importance, this pitcher was only the 4th ! one made,
as evidenced by the Order Number 4, the lower number of the hallmarks.
Period engraved initials for the original owner.
This important 1853 Tiffany hand decorated duckbill spout pitcher 8 inches and 17 1/2 standard ounces.
In very,very fine condition, appears little, never used.
Rich silver patina.
