DESCRIPTION

This is a premier piece of Japanese naval history: an original 1905 commemorative postcard honoring the historic Imperial Japanese Navy Triumphant Great Naval Review in Tokyo Bay. This event celebrated Japan's victory in the Russo-Japanese War under Admiral Togo.
Front: Captures IJN warships firing a formal royal salute with dark smoke pouring from the funnels.  The main text on the upper right reads:
The bottom-left caption identifies the scene as 「礼砲発射」 (Firing a Royal Salute). The ships depicted are prominent early Imperial Japanese Navy warships, such as the armored cruiser Tokiwa or Asama.
Back: Features a crisp, unaddressed reverse displaying a 1.5 Sen Imperial Chrysanthemum stamp perfectly tied by the rare purple commemorative ink cancel. The cancel reads "IMPERIAL NAVAL REVIEW 1905 - TOKIO" in English and "凱旋大観艦式記念 東京" in Japanese.
Condition: Excellent vintage state for its age. Clean back with no address lines filled in. Light corner toning and minor edge wear consistent with a 120+ year old item. Please inspect the high-resolution scans for an exact look.
