Here we have a very stylish Art Deco Glass Dressing Table Box with a Sterling Silver and Yellow Enamel Lid. The glass box is a plain oblong while the yellow enamel lid has engine turned decoration in a fan and sunburst design and is gilded on the underside. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The box was made by Collett & Anderson and assayed in London in 1932. Founded in the early 1920s, Collett & Anderson were based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter but had virtually all of their pieces assayed in London. They principally made dressing table items but their mark is also seen on photo frames, smoking accessories and occasionally tableware. The firm ceased trading around the start of the Second World War in 1939.

Condition is extremely good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the silver and no damage to the enamel, just the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The box is 6cm / 2.4ins long, 3.9cm / 1.5ins wide and 5.2cm / 2ins high. It weighs 128g / 4.5oz.

The hallmarks, on the outside rim of the lid, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter r for 1932 and the C & A makers' mark for Collett & Anderson.
