This is a good quality Vintage Set of Four Sterling Silver Bridge Pens in a Black Leather Pouch. The pens are engine turned along their full length and decorated on the ends with the four card suits: hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades. The pen refills are simply pulled out when they need replacing.
The set of pens were made in Germany, probably by a company called Hauser, imported into the UK by D J Silverware and assayed in London in 1979. D.J. Silverware was established in 1962 in London’s Clerkenwell district, the traditional home of London’s silversmiths. They started out as a repair service but went on to craft many fine quality silver pieces of their own, primarily tableware or small items for personal use, and also to import small items from abroad. They remained in business until around the late 1980s.
Condition is good, with just a couple of little dings in the bodies of two of the pens. They are all in working order and refills are still available to buy. The leather pouch is in good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each pen is 8.5cm / 3.3ins long and the set of four together weighs in at 15.8g / 0.56oz of solid Sterling Silver. With the refils in and placed in the pouch the set weighs 35.3g / 1.2oz.
The pens are stamped 925 for Sterling silver and each one has a hallmark at the top of the body which is small but clear to read with a magnifier. These show the 925 stamp for Sterling Silver, the Leo astrological sign for London imports, the date letter E for 1979 and the D J importers'mark for D J Silverware.
