1888 ANTIQUE VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER BABY RATTLE BELLS WHISTLE MOP mother of pearl 


An absolutely gorgeous sterling silver baby rattle which is fully hallmarked with Birmingham assay, date letter for 1888 and makers George Unite.  George Unite was born in Birmingham in 1798 to Samuel and Prudence Unite.  He was apprenticed to Joseph Willmore in 1810 and worked in Partnership with James Hillard from 1825, registering his own makers mark in August 1832.

This is a very ornate beautifully made piece of antique silver which demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship.  

The rattle has six working bell and a working whistle.  The teether is made from mother of pearl.   On very close inspection there is some initials at the very top of the whistle, which are ornately engraved and probably was the initials of the owner, but they are not very noticeable.

Condition:-  structurally sound and displays beautifully.  There are minor signs of age, small dents on some of the bells and a tiny tear on the middle shaft of the whistle  (shown in photos).
