Richardson was a very identifiable Yankee among giant personalities in the New York lineup. His uncanny success in World Series play won him an MVP in the ‘60 series, memorable for Mazeroski’s walk-off home run, but even so, it did not totally succeed in overshadowing Richardson’s performance in the series.

Richardson only played 12 years, retiring at 30 years of age to spend time with his family.
