Children's Britannica is a proper encyclopaedia designed for you, but on a plan that will help you to use, when you are older, a grown-up encyclopaedia.

As you will see as you turn over the pages of Children's Britannica, all the articles in volumes I to ıl are arranged in alphabetical order. In. volume 2, for example, Badger is followed by BADMINTON, BAGHDAD and BAGPIPE. This is the way the articles are arranged in the Encyclopaedia Britannica itself, which we might call the parent of Children's Britannica. However, the Encyclopaedia Britannica is a very big reference book containing 40 million words, so it naturally contains many more articles than this one and deals with many subjects that are too difficult for you to understand. The last volume of Children's Britannica, volume 12, is a special one for it contains the index, which tells you exactly where to look for all the facts about a subject.
