Antique Georgian mahogany pole fire screen featuring oval panel with original pictorial needlework and a tripod base. This piece has a tall erect mahogany pole topped with a wood finial attached to a classic urn form turned shaft terminating on tripod pointed pad (Dutch) feet beautifully decorated with satinwood marquetry. The pole supports an oval panel framing needlework with satinwood veneer on its front, and mahogany veneer on reverse. Needlework is likely original and consists of embroidery on silk or linen with a loose bouquet of pinks, bluebells, honeysuckle, morning glory, roses, delphiniums and other flowers tied with a blue ribbon. The needlework is also under glass and while the original silver thread has turned brown over time, it still retains much of its delicate coloring. Likely made in Ireland in the final quarter of the 18th century. A similar shaped fire screen is on display at the Met Museum in New York, NY.

From floor to finial the screen measures approximately 59 inches tall, with the oval panel measuring approximately 22.5 inches by 17.5 inches. Underside of tripod contains inventory number from a museum or gallery. Needlework has areas of missing thread, fading, and a small tear to left side. A portion of the satinwood veneer appears to have been repaired. The back of the oval panel is missing part of mahogany veneer as shown in photos. The finial on top of the pole is a modern replacement.
