Willys-Overland Motors Inc. Employee Badge — #356 / Serial 356174
A genuine survivor from one of America's most consequential automotive manufacturers.
Willys-Overland Motors — the Toledo, Ohio company that would go on to produce the
iconic WWII Jeep — issued numbered employee identification badges to its factory
workers throughout the early-to-mid 20th century. This example, badge number 356
with serial 356174, is a tangible piece of pre-war American industrial history.
Construction follows the standard practice of American badge manufacturers of the
era: a white metal frame housing a pale seafoam green lithographed paper or celluloid
insert, with the company name arched in raised lettering around the upper rim and
"INC." stamped at the base. A small brass eyelet at the bottom suggests it was
worn on a lanyard or secondary holder in addition to the bar pin. The reverse
retains a functional bar pin with a faint maker's hallmark.
Condition: Good for its age. The insert shows minor wear consistent with honest use
over many decades. The metal frame carries surface scratches and natural patina.
The pin mechanism is functional. The face displays cleanly — this is a badge that
holds up well as a display piece.
Diameter: approximately 1.75 inches.
Fits naturally into any Willys, Jeep, or pre-war automotive collection — or displays
as a strong example of American factory Americana.
