This is an original document pair dated 1799 and 1762 ...first from Waterborough, Maine where Ebenezer Bursill has old to Jonathan Thompson a plot of land in Waterborough, signed at bottom by Ebenezer Bursill, Timothy Ricker, Henry Hobbs and Andrew Burley...signed on back by William Frost as Registrar. Document is 8x12, irregular edges, folds, overall good condition.

Rev. Henry Hobbs, Sr.(1768-1848), began to preach in 1798, and strengthened the church in Waterborough, which had recently been reorganized with eight members by P(elatiah) Tingley. The rest of the church had gone with their pastor to the Baptists. In January, 1800, he visited the Farmington Q.M. with John Buzzell, and assisted in quieting the Locke trouble. He was ordained in Standish, May 22, 1801.

He was one of the original peitioners in 1804 to the Legislature of Massachusetts for a recognition and incorporation of the "Freewill Anti-pedo Baptists" of Maine. It was his sonorous voice which was heard over a mile distant during the grove reformation in August 1808, and which brought Rev. Henry Leach to a sense of his sin. He was clerk of the Parsonfield Q.M.(Quarterly Meeting), and treasurer of the "Maine Freewill Baptist Charitable Society" from its organization, Nov. 27, 1824.

Captain/Lieutenant William Frost of Massachusetts: Born in Kittery, Maine (then part of Massachusetts), he served as a Lieutenant in Colonel Edmund Phinney's 18th Continental Regiment. He was present at Fort Ticonderoga in 1776 and 1777, and also served as a Commissary of Issues and was stationed at Valley Forge.


Second document dated 1762, Newbury, Mass. is a last will and testament of Jonthan Rolfe. Great descriptions, 8x12, folds, else in overall good condition.

Jonathan Rolfe was born on 2 August 1695 at New bury, Essex county, Massachusetts. Jonathan died in 1784 at Newbury, Essex county, Massachusetts.
