In the group picture, upper left is a Griffon manicure set with tools included. Lovely gold tone clutch in good condition outside, needs some polishing/cleaning up inside. Probably 1950s. Includes original box.
Center top is a 1920's evening vanity box with mesh wrist strap. It shows some wear on the lid, but the inside is amazing. It has compartments for powder, perfume, lipstick, pills, a change purse and a comb. There is a mirror as well. Everything inside is unused and in great condition except the change purse which has some age spots.. There is no branding. It includes a soft storage bag and the original box. The bag needs cleaning and the box is damaged.
Top right is a 1930s Whiting and Davis branded Alumet bag with what appears to be a Bakelite handle. Both bag and frame are branded. A section of the frame has tarnished and some discolor from that has bled over onto the bag near the tarnish. The frame has lost a fair bit of its plating but the bag could be used for parts. The value is in the handle.
Bottom left is a black and silver beaded evening bag c. 1920s. A very few beads are tarnished and there is no chain. The black lining is in great shape.
Center bottom is a gold beaded evening bag by Richere marked "Hand Made in Japan". It would have been made in the 1950's to 70s. Snap closure, excellent condition.
Bottom right is the oldest bag, dating to the 1920s. (NOTE: THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD) Branded on the lining "I Magnin Made in" (illegible location). Grover Magnin spent nearly $200,000 on distinctive purses in Paris in 1923 so I suspect this was one of them. Hand beaded with most of the beads still intact. Displays very well in a memory box, etc. Lovely gold washed frame with push button opener and long chain. This one is gorgeous but a bit fragile as the fabric is starting to fray. It has a little beveled mirror with damage to the silver backing that rests in a snap closure cover tucked into a pocket inside. The lining is also fraying and discolored.
These 6 bags had been stored for many years along with a lot of vintage costume jewelry and celluloid dresser accessories. The owner used to sell these items in an antique mall but stopped maybe 20 years ago and stored it all.
Thanks for looking.
