This lovely and vibrant bowl molded in the form of a large leaf, possibly a begonia leaf. The bowl has a deep green glaze that brings contrast where it settles into the veining on the leaf.
Based on the impressed marks, this Wedgwood majolica piece was made in August 1889. The dating is determined by the three-letter code ADR found above the "WEDGWOOD" stamp:
• Third Letter (R): This represents the year. In Wedgwood's 19th-century dating cycle, the letter R signifies the year 1889.
• First Letter (A): This indicates the month of manufacture. For pieces produced after 1864, the letter A corresponds to August.
• Second Letter (D): This is a potter's mark used for internal factory identification
Approximate dimensions are 8.5 inches by 8.5 inches. In addition to general crazing, there are chips to the underside of rim and one crack as shown in photos.
