Antique framed study of a woman executed in pencil on paper, attributed to Ernst Slingeneyer. The woman is viewed from behind, showing her right hand extended behind her holding up the elongated train on her full skirts. She is clothed in a 16th century costume, with her sleeves displaying billiments, which repeat on what is likely a crescent shaped French hood placed forward on her head. Around her neck is a double strand necklace.

On reverse is a hand written note in French detailing aspects of the artist’s life and at the bottom of the note referencing "E. BENELIT, Dict. peintres...", likely referencing a dictionary of painters.

Ernst Slingeneyer (1820–1894), a noted Belgian painter of historical scenes, portraits, and Orientalist subjects. Born in Loochristi on May 29, 1820, and died in Brussels on April 27, 1894. He studied under Gustaaf Wappers in Antwerp and was associated with the Academy of Brussels. Slingeneyer was a representative of Romanticism and Academism, later moving toward Orientalism.

The drawing is matted and framed in a gilt wood frame, which measures approximately 9 inches by 10.25 inches and .5 inches deep. Framed with museum glass. Mild wear to frame. Inspection of the drawing outside of the frame confirms it is a OOAK hand drawn piece of art, with graphite texture, metallic shine, and varied line weights as shown in photos. It has not been authenticated, and has been priced based on its value as a framed OOAK piece.
