This is a work by Hidetoshi Nakayama, a custom knife maker and netsuke artist active not only in Japan but worldwide.
At first glance it appears to be an artistic folding knife with an openwork (pierced) handle, but the stainless-steel handle—made using the lost-wax casting process—features refined detailing. When light is shone through the opened handle, a skull silhouette emerges.
The crisp, stable slip-joint action is also uniquely his.
An exquisite collector’s knife.
Includes an ebony knife stud.
