Published in Oxford in 1829-1830, this is a very nice

bound in full leather bindings fitted with brass closure clasps, page edges
gilded all-round. The books measure 5.5 inches by 3.5 inches approx..
Both books bear bookplates of their original owner, an
Emilia Mary Bowater.
This most likely is Emilia Mary Barne (who became Emilia
Mary, Lady Bowater), a 19th-century English noblewoman with close ties to the
royal court.
Born Emilia Mary Barne, she was the daughter of Colonel
Michael Barne of Sotterley, Suffolk. she married General Sir Edward
Bowater (1787–1861), a distinguished military officer and veteran of the
Peninsular War and Waterloo
Her husband, Sir Edward, was a prominent figure at court,
serving as Groom-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria and later as a special envoy for
royal missions. Emilia herself moved in high-society circles as "Lady
Bowater."
Her daughter, Louisa Mary Bowater (later Lady Knightley),
was a well-known royal courtier and an extra Lady-in-Waiting to the Duchess of
Albany.
