This is a rare Fada. The
Fada model L33 was the most expensive radio in the 33 series Fada portable radios. It’s a 1941 model and is obviously expensive as
indicated by its leather covering and gold monogram. It may have been a radio bought prior to WWII
with the possibility of taking it along while serving in the military. Unfortunately, due to war priorities, the
high voltage battery was rarely available.
So, it probably saw little use.
The radio has been recapped reusing the original capacitor cases. It has been properly aligned using modern
test equipment and works well. Filament
power is supplied by three D cells and high voltage can be provided by seven 9
Volt batteries in series. Also,
inverters are available that can supply the high voltage from AA batteries. And yes, the knobs appear to be Catalin!
