Hamilton Fish (1808–1893) was a prominent 19th-century figure, also serving as the Governor of New York and a U.S. Senator. The piece features a facsimile of his signature below the portrait.

The print is based on a daguerreotype by Mathew Brady and was engraved by Alexander Hay Ritchie.

The engraving measures approximately 8 1/8 inches by 10 7/8 inches. Age related toning, particularly to edges, as shown in photos.
