This decorative tabletop book stand features substantial cast iron construction with an adjustable tilt angle, ornate gothic / fleur-de-lis inspired openwork pattern, and a cast iron weighted cord to hold cookbook or music pages in place while in use. The dark finish and architectural styling give it a classic old-world kitchen or study appearance — the kind of thing that looks like it may have once belonged to Cotton Mather himself.

I acquired this piece heavily rusted and dirty and carefully restored it using an electrolysis cleaning process. After cleaning, it was lightly oiled to help protect the surface and preserve the rich aged cast iron character. It was intentionally not heavily refinished or painted over.

A fun detail: the center scrollwork unintentionally forms a heart shape, which gives the piece a surprisingly warm and charming look in person.

A beautiful and functional accent piece for farmhouse, cottage, gothic revival, primitive, or traditional kitchen décor.
